Although the California Attorney General’s enforcement of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) doesn’t start until July 1, 2020 (with guidance from the Attorney General’s office still being finalized), the legislation takes effect on January 1, 2020, so it’s important to be aware of the key responsibilities created by the CCPA.
We are actively working on updating our CMP solution and look forward to introducing it in early 2020 to help you comply with your CCPA requirements.
- The California Attorney General’s office is finalizing enforcement guidelines after a comment period that concluded on December 6, 2019.
- The IAB finalized version 1 of a CCPA compliance framework for publishers and technology companies on December 5, 2019.
- Prebid recently released updates to the consent management module, with bidder adapters being updated to support CCPA as well.
In addition to our own legal team, Sortable is working closely with partners in the industry to comply with CCPA and help our publishers understand their obligations under this regulation. However, any information shared by Sortable should not be taken as a substitute for legal advice.
With that said, we want to provide some guidance on Sortable’s plan to support CCPA and share our recommendations for publishers.
What Sortable is doing
Sortable will be signing on under the IAB’s Limited Service Provider Agreement and working within the framework to ensure user consent signals (the U.S. Privacy String) are passed through our platform to integrated partners.
Early in the new year, we will be upgrading to a newer version of Prebid that includes the updated consent module and bidder adapter support. Our server-to-server integrations will also be updated to send the US Privacy String in requests to our bidders.
We are actively working to update our consent management solution to cover CCPA under the IAB framework. We will continue to provide further updates as we prepare to make this available in the near future.
